Welcome to the madness that is marketing in education! As I have traversed this world for the past 20 years, I’ve quickly come to realise there really aren’t many resources out there for those of us thrust into this scene. This website hopes to impart some of the knowledge I’ve gathered on my travels and take away some of the myths and hurdles you will no doubt feel are currently in your way. In The Beginning

In the beginning, there was an IT Tech. This was an IT Tech whose job was to manage a school’s content systems. This IT Tech had a background in IT (funnily enough) but excelled more in the creative side of the discipline, creating websites and making slideshows look just that little bit more professional. One day, this IT Tech and the IT team discovered a brand-new online application. Twitter had been born and, in those heady first few days, was just what they needed to broadcast what they were listening to and how their meals were going. Brand Consistency - Checklist

Logo Placement Is the high-quality version of the logo being used? Is it positioned in your school's specific designated spot? Is there enough "clear space" around the logo so it doesn't look cramped? Colour Palette Does the design use the core school colours? Are the colours consistent with the physical branding (uniforms, signage)? Is the contrast high enough so that any text is easy to read against the background? Typography & Fonts Is the headline written in the designated headline font? Is the body text set in your standard neutral font? Are you avoiding "font creep" (using more than two or three different fonts in one design)? Layout & Hierarchy Is the main title positioned in a designated area? Brand Consistency

Brand consistency is the key to a professional-looking account. A professional-looking account is key to projecting that you know what you’re doing and, in turn, so does the school! Logo   It is likely you have a school logo; I know of only one school in our local area that doesn’t and, yes, it bugs me! You need access to a high-quality version of this logo if you can. Now, audit what other key branding strategies your school already has in place. Do you have specific school colours? These are usually incorporated into the logo, but you may also have specific colours associated with the school via things like uniforms. These are going to be the core colours you use in your posts. Fonts   Fonts and typefaces are important. Does your school have a specific one they use already? When we first set up our school branding, the school had already defaulted to using the Calibri font for most of its digital work, thanks to the forethought of our Network Manager at the time.
